A review: Esters from the citrus class

Author(s):

Ioana Stanciu

Abstract:

Citrus esters are also called food additives and represent an important category of lubricants due to their biodegradability. They are produced on an industrial scale and are non-toxic for animals.
The use of poly(vinyl chloride) plasticized with citric esters in the food and pharmaceutical industry is frequently presented in the literature. Citric esters and in particular acetyl citrates with C4-10 alcohols, are used as plasticizers of poly(vinyl chloride) used for the manufacture of containers used to handle blood.
